MedPro's Fort Wayne Headquarters Expansion Complete
Addition supports continued growth and investments in employee wellness
Fort Wayne, IN (September 17, 2013) – Medical Protective Company, the nation's oldest, largest and highest rated (A++ by A.M. Best) healthcare malpractice insurer, is pleased to announce the completion of an expansion to its Fort Wayne campus, located at the corner of St. Joe Center and Reed Roads.
For over a century, Fort Wayne has been home to MedPro, and today about half of its 500 employees are based in Fort Wayne. Continued growth has resulted in the addition of 50 new jobs, with about a dozen still available in Underwriting, Information Technology, Project Management, and non-degreed Operations and Customer Service. Openings range from senior professional to entry-level positions and include opportunities for recent college graduates. In addition, MedPro has expanded its internship program with area colleges to help attract local talent after graduation.
To accommodate this growth, this spring MedPro embarked on a project to (a) add over 50 workstations, optimize office space and expand parking space; (b) enhance its conferencing and educational resources offered through MedPro University, an on-site learning and development center dedicated to employee and agent training; and (c) build a new employee Activity Center that includes a state-of-the-art exercise/strength training space, an aerobics/yoga studio and an activities area.
"MedPro has always enjoyed a reputation as a top employer in our healthcare malpractice insurance segment, and we intend to continue investing in our employees," said MedPro Vice President of Human Resources, Kim Kem. "This project – that adds and enhances space for work, collaboration, training and wellness – is another example of MedPro's commitment to ensuring we continue to attract and retain the best and brightest."
The new space will be open to employees this Friday, September 20. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 21 to coincide with MedPro's 3rd Annual Employee and Family 5K Walk/Run, held on the scenic jogging path that circles the company's 40-acre campus and connects to the Activity Center.
"Most companies – big and small – are concerned about employee wellness, and it's worth highlighting MedPro's commitment to helping our employees improve their health and wellness," added Kem. "The MedPro Activity Center is a great example of this commitment, and we have similar options in our other locations (and for those where we don't, we offer employees stipends for other fitness avenues). Whether an employee is trying to get in shape, increase activity level, or simply unwind at the end of a busy day, the Activity Center provides a great outlet."
For the expansion project, MedPro chose local vendors, including Weigand Construction (for the Activity Center), Productive Business Interiors (for the office space design and reconfiguration), and Phillip Shirmeyer, Inc. (for additional remodeling work).
"We really appreciated the constant communication, vigilant site management and detailed project management provided by Weigand Construction," said Rick Feagler, MedPro's Project Manager for expansion. "They, and all of our local vendors, delivered on-time and within budget an expansion that supports our growth and further strengthens our commitment to our employees and the community."
"Whether it's protecting healthcare providers, working with vendors or supporting health - and wellness-related charities such as Matthew 25, Charis House, Community Harvest Food Bank, St. Martin's Health Clinic, United Way and Fort4Fitness, MedPro employees are proud of our commitment to our communities," Feagler concluded.
